Stakeholder Engagement: RRN Meeting with Federal Department of Fisheries
Dec 12th 2023

In December, the Revamp Rave Network Abuja, under the leadership of team lead Abimbola Abikoye, conducted a significant stakeholder engagement event. The focus was on a research study that serves as a precursor to the upcoming RRN Coastal Community Conference 2024. The primary objective of this engagement was to delve into the challenges and opportunities within the artisanal fishing sector, particularly in light of the profound impacts of climate change on local economies. The event aimed to gather insights from government agencies tasked with addressing these issues.

During the session, discussions revolved around identifying the specific challenges faced by artisanal fishing communities due to climate change and understanding the existing governmental policy interventions. These insights were crucial for informing future engagements and shaping discussions at the upcoming RRN conference, which targeted five coastal fishing communities grappling with the impacts of climate change.

The engagement session was endorsed by the Department, with the Director and 10 members of his team in attendance. Their presence was instrumental in providing valuable perspectives and insights, serving as a pivotal component of both the conference and the post-conference objectives.

Overall, the stakeholder engagement served as a vital platform for fostering dialogue, gathering insights, and laying the groundwork for our RRN Coastal Community Conference on Climate Change and aimed at addressing the challenges faced by artisanal fishing communities in the face of climate change.
